Et in Arcadia

Based on a hypothetical study of illumination of the naos in accordance with the geographic outlay of the temple, the temple can be interpreted as a camera where Apollo gathers light from the east and projects it towards the frieze on which the struggles between Greek heroes (kosmos) and the irrational forces of Amazons and Centaurs (chaos) are depicted.
The negatives are shown as created by the camera and this causes a light-shadow and left-right inversion. The image produced brings together the formal aspects of convulsion-combustion represented in the frieze via the temperature and expressiveness of the colour negative and its chromatic characteristics.
